This morning, one of the news commented on the radio was the reintroduction of mathematics at the end of the secondary cycle, whatever the field. This news perceived rather positively by mathematics experts like the mathematician Stéphane Jaffard, is also good news for those who are interested in digital or technological sovereignty.
Indeed, the decrease in the number of mathematicians, and the impoverishment of the mathematical culture of all high school and university students are major concerns! How can you master technological evolutions and be among the leaders of innovation in new technologies, if you do not have the minimum required skills?
So, the decision to reintroduce an hour and a half of mathematics per week in the first year is very good news. But if we must welcome this decision of the Ministry of Education, we will have to verify its implementation. Without the necessary skills, there will be neither technological nor digital sovereignty!
